<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I started this weekend by cutting out all the block pieces and organizing them by similar block style. This way I can sneak in some sewing quickly during the week after work... </div>

Hey there friends! I promise I've done some sewing since my last post ... maybe not as much as I had hoped, but I was on vacation. :-) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I usually sew on a Bernina 710, but took my smaller 210 to the Outer Banks with me and enjoyed sewing with the ocean and sand dunes, and the occasional wild pony, in the background. Relaxing and a fun week away. </div>

<br />
If you follow me on Instagram (@sewlux), you've seen these photos, but I wanted to walk you through a little more of my pocket piecing process.<br />
<br />
You may have also seen that <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/sew-sew" target="_blank">Sew & Sew by Chloe's Closet</a> arrived right before I left for the beach and I changed my mind about my fabric choices... I mean, they are just so pretty!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidu_vtatNb9TCqY1HCF4Zd82qr3FJUABZkhtepcvJbOW_EM4XRy2M90kuiSwVnCkDrr9Psqu0NIm8jtwEqClDEbbYICTz-8AwsDqdx9BTQtDzzZ-vW5UsxEO0cBxKMHgIC8hyphenhyphenxEaHyCzs/s1600/IMG_20160609_220045.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidu_vtatNb9TCqY1HCF4Zd82qr3FJUABZkhtepcvJbOW_EM4XRy2M90kuiSwVnCkDrr9Psqu0NIm8jtwEqClDEbbYICTz-8AwsDqdx9BTQtDzzZ-vW5UsxEO0cBxKMHgIC8hyphenhyphenxEaHyCzs/s400/IMG_20160609_220045.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I knew I wanted to put an initial on one end of the pocket. I decided it would be super cute to put it inside a spool ... I used the Spell It With Moda letter as my inspiration and scaled it down... way down. The letter finished at 1.5" wide x 2.5" tall. I made the <a href="http://thimbleblossoms.bigcartel.com/product/mini-spools-pdf-pattern-169" target="_blank">Mini Spool from Thimble Blossoms</a> a little taller to accommodate that but otherwise followed Camille's directions. I think it's really cute if I do say so myself! ;-)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPNUVahdvoVKoOupQOV4rcGPoLDyvukBFyGTN7ytMtHlLHnxRzoDdk-y3dLRpo1GRpgBA2sZsz1-YcAcIsb_QE5TdZDZD0l-zQlvHfKyNoMRCyIhi_90DFGV8xCN4ab2HcU5KR6bQkfBg/s1600/IMG_20160612_151545.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPNUVahdvoVKoOupQOV4rcGPoLDyvukBFyGTN7ytMtHlLHnxRzoDdk-y3dLRpo1GRpgBA2sZsz1-YcAcIsb_QE5TdZDZD0l-zQlvHfKyNoMRCyIhi_90DFGV8xCN4ab2HcU5KR6bQkfBg/s400/IMG_20160612_151545.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
My next end pocket is the cute little flower from <a href="http://thimbleblossoms.bigcartel.com/product/mini-handmade-pattern-pdf-pattern" target="_blank">Handmade</a> - also a mini pattern by Camille. I fussy cut a bunch of flowers from <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/sew-sew/products/sew-sew-garden-doopsy-daisy-pink-lemonade" target="_blank">this print</a> as the center. And can we talk about these measuring tape prints?! I plan to add some borders to this one and to make it large enough.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiTUyDqJTBPnS9PVVJKQD9xOBOwbWih6jXA4QfVvfCTpM50ngCoX3oUmGkm5VFg7nTvTxSE4VjFFJVGiUuW8imsy48gGyXLHi_i_vBuwaowS6ATijieGIqssmFfBbYwjiXqC8I7yH1hio/s1600/IMG_20160614_204430.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiTUyDqJTBPnS9PVVJKQD9xOBOwbWih6jXA4QfVvfCTpM50ngCoX3oUmGkm5VFg7nTvTxSE4VjFFJVGiUuW8imsy48gGyXLHi_i_vBuwaowS6ATijieGIqssmFfBbYwjiXqC8I7yH1hio/s400/IMG_20160614_204430.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Since I was traveling and wasn't sure what kind of iron and ironing board might be available at the beach house, I invested in a cute <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0057UMYAW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1" target="_blank">little travel iron</a> and <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010XSKRG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1" target="_blank">ironing mat</a> that I got off of Amazon. While small, this iron definitely did the job and got super hot. I didn't use steam, but it was hot enough to press my seams nice and flat. (Side note: after reading some reviews about these ironing mats/pads, I brought along a little tv tray table and used it as my ironing surface just in case ... and that way I didn't risk ruining the dining table at the house.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkkztdMvmlc1XVPLJ2WnuDVfCV4VOMvyLGHF9-beZZQ49tnFgS3DJw46FoKuJGhHJA8zzRHE7_IzXPxoY3gH34tIebGV-Dd_Fm2WPVAfxgDlF2ZtN02TO8TzfjWhsbmCqStRfjueGuqIE/s1600/IMG_20160612_164421.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkkztdMvmlc1XVPLJ2WnuDVfCV4VOMvyLGHF9-beZZQ49tnFgS3DJw46FoKuJGhHJA8zzRHE7_IzXPxoY3gH34tIebGV-Dd_Fm2WPVAfxgDlF2ZtN02TO8TzfjWhsbmCqStRfjueGuqIE/s400/IMG_20160612_164421.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided to piece some of the small <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/products/jen-kingwell-smitten-pattern" target="_blank">Smitten blocks</a> for both of my larger pockets. I machine piece these and use the <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/products/marti-michell-large-hexagon-templates-set-h" target="_blank">Marti Michell templates</a> to cut and mark my fabrics. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUcQGI9GuehPu73zWAeuDNOD5ya75rr0dHipkWDIg55Ajt63vJ0zzkMB4GnT6u2D7-kz7Dx2YpQHxtrXlZtVpwNpbBYVDiPbPzPBxMPScVfrje0m1Q8_lQFE55EGCWuD6pj4WW0Ua1CaE/s1600/IMG_20160616_115112.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUcQGI9GuehPu73zWAeuDNOD5ya75rr0dHipkWDIg55Ajt63vJ0zzkMB4GnT6u2D7-kz7Dx2YpQHxtrXlZtVpwNpbBYVDiPbPzPBxMPScVfrje0m1Q8_lQFE55EGCWuD6pj4WW0Ua1CaE/s400/IMG_20160616_115112.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
I used a paper grocery bag to make a template of the pocket size and then the MM templates to mark the layout to figure out how many blocks I would need to make. And then I had a great time playing around with fabrics ...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJCoSCntYaYAAtyx-ndNxRH1bptg9jT5R67ExQVTM6HiLRQ-N9Doq4fi7IaZ3ech4zSF-s7feKU-IqwWEt4L6762KfFIVhe26NS7DfqFL1s15eKgHHs3eAY1fScNrvmwRl1ykBkhP2Xm0/s1600/IMG_20160616_140751.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJCoSCntYaYAAtyx-ndNxRH1bptg9jT5R67ExQVTM6HiLRQ-N9Doq4fi7IaZ3ech4zSF-s7feKU-IqwWEt4L6762KfFIVhe26NS7DfqFL1s15eKgHHs3eAY1fScNrvmwRl1ykBkhP2Xm0/s400/IMG_20160616_140751.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Can all the blocks be my favorite? I don't think I can choose just one... ;-)<br />
<br />
I think this bag is going to be totally dreamy with these colors and florals mixed up. To make the pocket panel big enough, I added some partial unpieced hexagons (using the largest whole hexagon template in the set to cut them) along the top and sides. Since the bottom of the hexagons on the second row will be cut off some, I kept all the most intricately pieced blocks along the top row where they could be seen.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKbOzxSsm5UIdwSp1esx_bdutE1861ZtXkg-SrLaMTWsVZRpCdvol-7XsIAds-SfxZZfTSn1_jJDi0r9duUTSBx96EUNaHCJiyM3FWYCTSTomGm5uvaXZPX32HbX9jGOpRHnviB8PD_Ho/s1600/IMG_20160616_155440.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKbOzxSsm5UIdwSp1esx_bdutE1861ZtXkg-SrLaMTWsVZRpCdvol-7XsIAds-SfxZZfTSn1_jJDi0r9duUTSBx96EUNaHCJiyM3FWYCTSTomGm5uvaXZPX32HbX9jGOpRHnviB8PD_Ho/s400/IMG_20160616_155440.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I will be quilting up my pockets and other panel pieces this weekend ... I will post an update in a few days! <br />
<br />

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Who is ready to start sewing up an Amy Butler Weekender bag?! I'm teaming up with Debbie over at <a href="http://happylittlecottage.blogspot.com/">Happy Little Cottage</a> to stitch up another great bag and I so hope you'll join the fun!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">A lot of folks fear making the Weekender. While it definitely is no <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjt46DqspTNAhUERiYKHROMCosQFggnMAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsewlux.blogspot.com%2F2014%2F04%2Fpatchwork-pouch-tutorial.html&usg=AFQjCNHxgWVt86mttcDkXsng2u0LerCD4w&sig2=mZR5KUVNTrJggw1zz3ILhg&bvm=bv.123664746,d.eWE" target="_blank">simple zipper pouch</a>, it is a doable bag! And just think how proud of yourself you will be to sling this thing over your shoulder and say "I made it!" when someone asks where you got that amazing bag. :-)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">There are a few parts of the assembly that are more difficult than others (mainly the worst is attaching the second side panel to the rest of the bag), but I encourage you to go for it! And have fun making it your own. :-)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This will be my third bag. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<ul style="background-color: white; color: #412c36; line-height: 18.48px; margin: 0.5em 0px; padding: 0px 2.5em;">
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/patterns/products/amy-butler-weekender-bag-pattern" target="_blank">pattern</a>! (Obviously!) ... We have these on order ... and will be arriving soon.</span></li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Zipper (I have used both metal and plastic molded.) You need a 30 inch zipper - I found mine at a big box fabric store in the past, but this time plan to order a <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/zipit?search_query=30+inch" target="_blank">double pull from my favorite zipper supplier</a>. </span></li>
<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Coordinating thread </span></li>

<li style="margin: 0px 0px 0.25em; padding: 0px;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Appropriate machine feet - regular piecing, walking foot, zipper foot, piping foot (Note: I don't have a piping foot, so I use my zipper foot.) </span></li>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I am planning to piece my pockets again this time. And I have been back and forth with myself about the design. I've sketched out a few things in my graph paper notebook, making notes about the larger panels and what blocks might fit in the side panels, etc. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Funny thing.... when I mentioned to my Mom about this sew along, our conversation went like this ... </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i>Her: "Haven't you already made two of these?" </i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i><br /></i></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i>Me: "Yes, but I gifted one."</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i><br /></i></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i>Her: "Maybe you could make this one for me." </i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i><br /></i></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><i>In my mind: "I was planning to keep this one."</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So ... it looks like I may be attempting two. Crazy talk, right?! Which means I may experiment a little on the second and share my thoughts with you. :)</span><br />

It's Mini Mania time! :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
May got away from me, so we're running a little behind our schedule sharing this one, but I think it was worth the wait! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/mini-mania-quilt-along">May's mini is our 5th in the Mini Mania</a> book by Abbey Lane Quilts and is a fun dresden block that alternates pointed and rounded blades. I decided on <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/chipper">Chipper by Tula Pink</a> and that fussy cuts were in order! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBDRCDt6vHRwxLAcesz87OLHAdGU1xOuPpZ5zhs7UKVAtOidfpHe3K-nRBfREThWo5HmnYLunTSe9XpmPmKizxMvUvq2rchf077DuhSqEskmmEVED_moV0t7z-6MkgfcKrIt1ZO97wML0/s1600/MM-HHfabrics.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBDRCDt6vHRwxLAcesz87OLHAdGU1xOuPpZ5zhs7UKVAtOidfpHe3K-nRBfREThWo5HmnYLunTSe9XpmPmKizxMvUvq2rchf077DuhSqEskmmEVED_moV0t7z-6MkgfcKrIt1ZO97wML0/s400/MM-HHfabrics.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Admittedly, I had some issues with the suggested method of construction for the blades. This one uses templates and has you sew it to a muslin and turn right sides out before attaching to the background. As you can see in the photo below (top set of blades) that this came out really wonky for me in the corners between the blades. I decided to start over and press the top of my blades under and glue baste before joining them. For me, this came out better and I used my "Perfect Circles" by Karen Kay Buckley to help me with the curved blades. If you don't have Perfect Circles, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2INxkVfGyqE">check out this video</a> by Sarah Fielke for how to make curved applique pieces.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4Cyi5hhRVYx7MwMQOApDt_tOtllzorVg4B9MlaogGq4U4QVU9vbgfRwMXZNFvedoXTmaFKMMH6fkJDrBugbvCaIrlfOT5wEAi3mfHbEiD-DSCq5TX8YRXfnDHcHNOKFmyU5iYq5gfh8M/s1600/MM-HH2ndtry.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4Cyi5hhRVYx7MwMQOApDt_tOtllzorVg4B9MlaogGq4U4QVU9vbgfRwMXZNFvedoXTmaFKMMH6fkJDrBugbvCaIrlfOT5wEAi3mfHbEiD-DSCq5TX8YRXfnDHcHNOKFmyU5iYq5gfh8M/s400/MM-HH2ndtry.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Fussy cuts for the win! I made these pretty easily, lining up my templates on the same part of the stripe (or dot) on the fabric. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3JyafaRfVYvAyvIzAhoL5PpFBKqr54snXsMfKp7hDFDGXZqIjdmkNq3-1daN1nVtdYCS1-tZmFuEg-xsB8Bqnw2pXIqy1R_Wy5aFWU738Wob1UzVz8OXbb7RxoXaW40ZkPFi2AL3Hwq4/s1600/MM-HHcenter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3JyafaRfVYvAyvIzAhoL5PpFBKqr54snXsMfKp7hDFDGXZqIjdmkNq3-1daN1nVtdYCS1-tZmFuEg-xsB8Bqnw2pXIqy1R_Wy5aFWU738Wob1UzVz8OXbb7RxoXaW40ZkPFi2AL3Hwq4/s400/MM-HHcenter.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided to quilt a grid in the background and used a ruler and 1" painter's tape to mark my lines. This is an easy method of marking and doesn't hurt the fabric. :) I didn't quilt the dresden, but am considering going back to add some hand stitching with perle thread.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZWX7jV7XLGSVCbws83qTR-qAP2oV9eKg94cFr_Kvni8DRuxCSsxijaqLNEO-a1ePnSmYDs96lWCMYv_HvmIcjD_flFOXxGRmvMnsYV3w9S_dScZOpc2kyPMWwP5S8aJwwHceoxU4fxXs/s1600/MM-HH-Quilting.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZWX7jV7XLGSVCbws83qTR-qAP2oV9eKg94cFr_Kvni8DRuxCSsxijaqLNEO-a1ePnSmYDs96lWCMYv_HvmIcjD_flFOXxGRmvMnsYV3w9S_dScZOpc2kyPMWwP5S8aJwwHceoxU4fxXs/s400/MM-HH-Quilting.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
I used some light purple Aurifil 50 weight thread for my applique and quilting. I like the subtle effect of the pale purple on the black Crossweave background. And can we talk about the <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/chipper/products/chipper-the-wanderer-raspberry">binding stripe</a>!? Love it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaaSKVm9mfM8KTzAo3MHA8tr8vn1JS-jCx80XPd4r7OIJhy629yItb-0ib3GZpLeL8pU9iMUxp6exi_i8lnrQQyEU52sJPcsKqmCtT6mLkklaqppnacVYMDNt98CGSTk4DsumW-i3yt5U/s1600/MM-HHthread.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaaSKVm9mfM8KTzAo3MHA8tr8vn1JS-jCx80XPd4r7OIJhy629yItb-0ib3GZpLeL8pU9iMUxp6exi_i8lnrQQyEU52sJPcsKqmCtT6mLkklaqppnacVYMDNt98CGSTk4DsumW-i3yt5U/s400/MM-HHthread.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
We have <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/mini-mania-quilt-along/products/mini-mania-hula-hoop-version-2">kits for this one available</a> (and we can make this in two other color ways - aqua and green - just let us know if you'd like)!<br />

<br />
And our friend, Jennie at Clover & Violet, stitched up another version in Coral Queen of the Sea. A <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/mini-mania-quilt-along/products/mini-mania-hula-hoop-version-1">kit for her version</a> is also available!<br />

<br />
I am really excited to share that I am teaming up with <a href="http://happylittlecottage.blogspot.com/">Debbie over at Happy Little Cottage</a> to stitch up along Weekender Bag!<br />
<br />
My first bag is about 2 years old now and is a favorite when I travel. Here she is on her first big trip to Maui...<br />

<br />
We are continuing to stitch our way through the <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/products/mini-mania-pattern-book" target="_blank">Mini Mania book</a> along with <a href="http://cloverandviolet.com/" target="_blank">Jennie at Clover & Violet</a>. This month, we have a cute rectangular mini called Hopscotch with spinning stars. This one measures 10 x 24 inches and is perfect for the wall or a table. You could even make the blocks as three smaller minis too!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxz_I1O2JsztFNT1Zso584A3m0vUVxY72vo5_p0WzL3opovthRUTdoYqnd7AJR9618A5ab1sOhmX1S9MJFV23oMZ2wczhYZlNrCqpOAu6YjtK6CwPFJPmjqokFLyJZKk2a2DvwIYVg6z4/s1600/MM-Hop-Quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="246" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxz_I1O2JsztFNT1Zso584A3m0vUVxY72vo5_p0WzL3opovthRUTdoYqnd7AJR9618A5ab1sOhmX1S9MJFV23oMZ2wczhYZlNrCqpOAu6YjtK6CwPFJPmjqokFLyJZKk2a2DvwIYVg6z4/s400/MM-Hop-Quilt.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For my version, I used prints from <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/little-miss-sunshine" target="_blank">Little Miss Sunshine by Lella Boutique</a> for Moda with my favorite background, <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/essential-dots/products/essential-dots-white-black" target="_blank">Moda's Essential Dots in White Black</a>. Love that Little Miss Sunshine has some great stripes, which are the perfect binding fabric too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK8x2buNItdgZuqfV5l5fdywqjTFa__vR-MjK1NQWEmz7a7sSGJSfOGxTiFTxJiFRFWw9V3sPiwFiX-8q9HyZHcU36V6AazrS-LZmOKs_PNgq0RU7J6q6drW5GSc9fDRMopimqPCBYi2Y/s1600/MM-Hop-QuiltEnd.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="330" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK8x2buNItdgZuqfV5l5fdywqjTFa__vR-MjK1NQWEmz7a7sSGJSfOGxTiFTxJiFRFWw9V3sPiwFiX-8q9HyZHcU36V6AazrS-LZmOKs_PNgq0RU7J6q6drW5GSc9fDRMopimqPCBYi2Y/s400/MM-Hop-QuiltEnd.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
I quilted pebbles in the background area and did a swirl in the center of the modified churn dash blocks. It's kind of hard to see the pebbles in this photo, but they make the stars seem to pop off the quilt, which is a fun effect. I also fussy cut the center of all the friendship stars in the outer border with that cute little strawberry print. :-)<br />
<br />
This mini requires the use of a template. I was a little too lazy to cut one out, but used my ruler to make a guide for cutting those pieces. First, I measured what size rectangle I would need for the shape and cut the fabric to that size.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj18Bi05YV9TGSF-XptdujVJQNxMR4gZ1LbHGquya0D6Na8gLyXZxyGP7-nkoARvmffwriWHJlcGjwR7Hq4l2Cv55RH0mzJynUmEDeI9KaH9yr9iXC-YqIJDSHLnEPB7njXKLFF1NWd8ZM/s1600/MM-Hop-RulerTip1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="303" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj18Bi05YV9TGSF-XptdujVJQNxMR4gZ1LbHGquya0D6Na8gLyXZxyGP7-nkoARvmffwriWHJlcGjwR7Hq4l2Cv55RH0mzJynUmEDeI9KaH9yr9iXC-YqIJDSHLnEPB7njXKLFF1NWd8ZM/s400/MM-Hop-RulerTip1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I used my ruler and some washi tape to make my "template." You can see that I lined up the edge of my ruler with the angled cut. Then I placed washi tape along the straight edge a the top of the rectangle. I lined up the edge of the tape with the top of the fabric and sliced off the bottom angle. Easy! (Try on a practice block if you aren't sure!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_S1MehXWTq5cWyJAAvIXUQ8mcxnr_bhgQTVh5TWjmZ8r1nL7AqnKcjAIRNaWKzaNg4m5fjKppnnwHBjWVKiKTtwxSSdbLjEi7bUXM2qlzXMkougsj9CKN5tWGHHjMy4_1BNoQ4FN2Gfc/s1600/MM-Hop-RulerTip2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="346" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_S1MehXWTq5cWyJAAvIXUQ8mcxnr_bhgQTVh5TWjmZ8r1nL7AqnKcjAIRNaWKzaNg4m5fjKppnnwHBjWVKiKTtwxSSdbLjEi7bUXM2qlzXMkougsj9CKN5tWGHHjMy4_1BNoQ4FN2Gfc/s400/MM-Hop-RulerTip2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
We have <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/kits" target="_blank">two different kits</a> for this fun mini - Option 1 is curated by Jennie and then, of course, Option 2. Find them <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/kits" target="_blank">both in the shop here</a> while they last!<br />

One of my favorite things about packing orders in the shop is getting to see different collections together as I am cutting and folding. This month, we're introducing a series of smaller Curated Collections - bundles of six fabrics that we've selected as perfect playmates! We'll add two new bundles each week in limited quantities. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Last week, we introduced Cat Crazy and Park Stroll ... </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIQP_votPvLRdepAM0uBy3k_VMqFQXHb97rsnGyqjr1pd-KBYXO6fv8P3BOzzzvXguTd9kKrhyphenhyphenXUJw-pqhd8uy2BnOToEB5a9yFPxgh2LT2-LsYGWaGKYSQhyzadzbAg4mLcN_KN6ZMN4/s1600/CC-CatCrazy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIQP_votPvLRdepAM0uBy3k_VMqFQXHb97rsnGyqjr1pd-KBYXO6fv8P3BOzzzvXguTd9kKrhyphenhyphenXUJw-pqhd8uy2BnOToEB5a9yFPxgh2LT2-LsYGWaGKYSQhyzadzbAg4mLcN_KN6ZMN4/s320/CC-CatCrazy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/new-in-the-shop/products/curated-cat-crazy" target="_blank">Cat Crazy</a> is a fun mix of prints mostly from Cotton + Steel, including prints from Playful, Cat Lady, Mochi and Black & White. And a fun graphite grey stashbuilder from For You. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/new-in-the-shop/products/curated-collection-park-stroll" target="_blank">Park Stroll</a> was built around that cute little bike print from Basic Grey's Mon Ami collection. A few coordinates from the collection as well as Grunge, Passport and Fancy were added in for a primary hued bundle of fun.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This week, we're loving these cheery and spring-like colors in our <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/new-in-the-shop/products/curated-collection-aloha" target="_blank">Aloha Bundle</a>, which we built on a few prints from Aloha Girl by Fig Tree Quilts. We added a little splash of color with Bella Solids Flamingo as well as a Cotton + Steel basic and small buttery floral from Strawberry Fields Revisited.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzK99VipPhQFDWSsW10nP5xvkxbx45uFDMiRLvWLp8cRyipDDGStJilqLpsNG0RsNTZRJ-_lqCuMtsy_3_CGs1nppspIifHp86IOHJzL6gZsg4El8b4EUnoGGuXP8IBhUMgrvIb_y_eoc/s1600/CC-Nantucket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="230" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzK99VipPhQFDWSsW10nP5xvkxbx45uFDMiRLvWLp8cRyipDDGStJilqLpsNG0RsNTZRJ-_lqCuMtsy_3_CGs1nppspIifHp86IOHJzL6gZsg4El8b4EUnoGGuXP8IBhUMgrvIb_y_eoc/s320/CC-Nantucket.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It should be no surprise that a Bonnie & Camille bundle would make it into the mix! Our <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/new-in-the-shop/products/curated-collection-nantucket" target="_blank">Nantucket bundle</a> is full of stashbuilders from their Daysail collection and features a classic navy, aqua and green color scheme. This would be great for a baby quilt or just to stash! <br />
<br />
Don't miss all the <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/sale414" target="_blank">new markdowns</a> and <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/last-chance" target="_blank">last chance pieces</a> in the shop this week ...<br />
<br />
Happy Sewing! :-)Chrissyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13224248792688446100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8167834402956695553.post-12541658203735702282016-04-10T22:30:00.002-04:002016-04-10T22:31:11.517-04:00Weekend Sewing : Lollies & Behind the Scenes<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hey there! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I finally found my way back to my sewing machine this weekend. To be fair, I did sew like crazy last weekend, but it was all pre-market sewing with my friend <a href="http://www.maychappell.com/" target="_blank">Lee from May Chappell</a>. Secret sewing can't be shared .... so I will have to settle with sharing this new project. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I saw an antique quilt on Instagram quite some time ago and I loved the block. It was actually a signature quilt using the space in the middle (cross) for embroidered signatures. So sweet! I've been thinking about making a quilt ever since I first saw it and I finally chose my fabrics! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB1CV1kb4QWkpyVRkUzC95ayCr-voBbGOZKKVunOsFu_OQyVEfDHE3yrHO4j5PMTKyypoMhT61_YakQB67ghHIo8WV_SpRww_AQycy4FEZfar6Puk6usYw2H-sJ12NsICgR-wNRtsOV3s/s1600/LolliesBundle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgB1CV1kb4QWkpyVRkUzC95ayCr-voBbGOZKKVunOsFu_OQyVEfDHE3yrHO4j5PMTKyypoMhT61_YakQB67ghHIo8WV_SpRww_AQycy4FEZfar6Puk6usYw2H-sJ12NsICgR-wNRtsOV3s/s400/LolliesBundle.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Jen Kingwell nailed it with her new <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/lollies" target="_blank">Lollies collection</a>. There are five prints in the collection, but each has eight stripes of different fun dottie prints... which means you get FOURTY prints in our bundle! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Each stripe is about 5.5" wide, so you can get a 2.5" and a 3" strip of each one ... perfect for a 10" Hearth & Home block! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlMmZrPIelzgCUoYhyphenhyphenmBF7AuTVSMtLeD9UVlBss6zagSFUDfqDJaBbSGfGkuQKoOppjzNCne0itCQyrbqo6_9nUTUpvzKmLCfHytiT8GTqwb7TAl3EXAnFovxDPTQmNvFJBP2M5Hfg6ug/s1600/Lollies-HandHblock.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlMmZrPIelzgCUoYhyphenhyphenmBF7AuTVSMtLeD9UVlBss6zagSFUDfqDJaBbSGfGkuQKoOppjzNCne0itCQyrbqo6_9nUTUpvzKmLCfHytiT8GTqwb7TAl3EXAnFovxDPTQmNvFJBP2M5Hfg6ug/s400/Lollies-HandHblock.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The "Hearth & Home" Block is a classic block. The cutting directions and assembly diagram can be <a href="http://www.quilterscache.com/H/HearthandHomeBlock.html" target="_blank">found here</a>. (Note: I used 3" squares to make the HST blocks and then trimmed them to 2.5" with a <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/notions-and-rulers/products/bloc-loc-6-5-inch-hst-ruler" target="_blank">Bloc Loc ruler</a> instead of using 2-7/8" squares. I find I get more accurate points this way.)<br />
<br />
I am using eight prints from <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/behind-the-scenes" target="_blank">Jen's Behind the Scenes collection</a> for the backgrounds AND I cut out all 30 of my blocks ... so I better get to chain stitching! :-)<br />
<br />

Just a quick post tonight to share what's new in the shop! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the last few days, we have added Zen Chic's newest collection called <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/flow" target="_blank">Flow</a>. The colors are bright and bold and will play so nicely with previous collections <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/for-you" target="_blank">For You</a> and <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/modern-background-paper" target="_blank">Modern Background</a>. We love that so many of the prints in this collection are great stashbuilders too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKYqDj0otOGD1EvqoRvbJMrrCC8W94XuuyHFmuYgQXP1MSa_EZQxtkJG7C1vhbr_ByuuNnN55larTn48Hta9ysnaqSTqQVf1HOemB79QRvU6HPwcKD3_BxFdAkhmYQ3ZX-KLAHspSJhVw/s1600/FlowBanner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKYqDj0otOGD1EvqoRvbJMrrCC8W94XuuyHFmuYgQXP1MSa_EZQxtkJG7C1vhbr_ByuuNnN55larTn48Hta9ysnaqSTqQVf1HOemB79QRvU6HPwcKD3_BxFdAkhmYQ3ZX-KLAHspSJhVw/s400/FlowBanner.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Sweetwater's newest, <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/volume-ii" target="_blank">Volume II</a>, has also arrived in the shop. This one is a follow up to their Mama Said Sew collection and includes lots of texty prints, low volumes, and more in their usual blacks, reds, and greys. This dictionary print is the best - definitely hoard worthy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPCUEPq1i_bEkuHT7t8qfb1AWRKjrvxJggNaxUH5v3bRBOtNz-1-9c2S4hs6n1K_dyQHJEPbThqtP_hsvia9IUM5bG3LbfuwVaglXmuVaJmiXR5H8r9IteY93_1ANLkg8TqAHNZRIbFv4/s1600/VolumeIIBanner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPCUEPq1i_bEkuHT7t8qfb1AWRKjrvxJggNaxUH5v3bRBOtNz-1-9c2S4hs6n1K_dyQHJEPbThqtP_hsvia9IUM5bG3LbfuwVaglXmuVaJmiXR5H8r9IteY93_1ANLkg8TqAHNZRIbFv4/s400/VolumeIIBanner.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
We also picked up a few of our favorite prints from <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/bee-creative" target="_blank">Bee Creative by Deb Strain</a>. We couldn't resist the black & gold color scheme, nor the amazing text prints. And those cute little bees....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXkB8hn3FdD8rtv37BwCEg5luD-vfGi0SoTXqlQPx7r8TSk4GGHZbLGyDHFWNPW1f0D_y0ysbqexMKDLL7Ts5jCrIRgQ7aAII-A3UwIqcJ1gCCkLGSVJFR6II1pui-XmUxObQg4hTrJCU/s1600/BeeCreativeBundle7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="132" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXkB8hn3FdD8rtv37BwCEg5luD-vfGi0SoTXqlQPx7r8TSk4GGHZbLGyDHFWNPW1f0D_y0ysbqexMKDLL7Ts5jCrIRgQ7aAII-A3UwIqcJ1gCCkLGSVJFR6II1pui-XmUxObQg4hTrJCU/s400/BeeCreativeBundle7.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Hope you've all had a wonderful holiday weekend! :)<br />

<br />
<a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/march-madness-week" target="_blank">March Madness Week</a> is here! We are so excited to offer some great deals on fabric, notions, patterns and more over the course of the week! Here's how it works ...<br />
<br />
Starting Monday, March 21st through Friday, March 26th, we will have several items available at a special price for the day (or while items last). With your first purchase,<a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/march-madness-week/products/stocking-stuffer-envelope" target="_blank"> order a "basket"</a> (flat rate envelope) and use code <b>MARCH16</b> in the coupon code section. This lets us know to hold your order for possible additions.<br />
<br />
If your envelope is full, we will upgrade your envelope to a box (or next method) free. Once this upgraded method is full, we will ship your order automatically. You'll need to order an additional envelope to continue with the weekly deals.<br />
<br />
All unshipped orders with the <b>MARCH16 </b>code will be shipped on Monday, 3/29/16. If you have any questions about how the promotion works, just send us an email (sewlux at gmail).<br />
<br />
<b>Please note: </b>Our website is set for EST - so prices will revert back to their normal price at midnight EST.<br />
<br />

I got some awesome sneak peeks at my second Thimble Blossoms Sampler quilt on Instagram. <a href="https://www.instagram.com/kwilter100/" target="_blank">Nicole</a> did the amazing custom quilting for me and she is she had shared some pictures with <a href="https://www.instagram.com/thimbleblossoms" target="_blank">Camille Roskelley</a> as seen below...<br />
<br />

I mean, I liked this quilt a lot after finishing the last seam, but Nicole has just taken it to the next level! I can hardly wait for FedEx to drop this off on my doorstep this week!<br />
<br />
We still have <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/kits/products/a-thimble-blossoms-sampler-quilt-along-kit" target="_blank">a few kits available</a> for this quilt here, but they won't last too much longer! <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMNSe9wNCEQT36yiaocCVgMeIOZfM1akSfH-Ck0Iisxhrxz4cnUX4lUmxrh-x8PPYe_IENlclc9Jqhp-nGvVcA5CyVzOcfrlkTccCXpBU5lmnXCgfkeoTyRhHjkkhCmxiMAYofTPEO0kc/s1600/SLF-MM-LeapFrog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="362" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMNSe9wNCEQT36yiaocCVgMeIOZfM1akSfH-Ck0Iisxhrxz4cnUX4lUmxrh-x8PPYe_IENlclc9Jqhp-nGvVcA5CyVzOcfrlkTccCXpBU5lmnXCgfkeoTyRhHjkkhCmxiMAYofTPEO0kc/s400/SLF-MM-LeapFrog.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am excited to share my Leap Frog mini quilt from the <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/products/mini-mania-pattern-book" target="_blank">Mini Mania book</a> by Abbey Lane Quilts. This was a fun one to make and I was able to chain piece it together pretty quickly once I got it cut out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I chose to use the same print in all the corner stars instead of making it scrappy as shown in the book. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One tip I would share is to make sure you draw the lines on the back of the squares as instructed in the book. Next time, I would also consider making my HST blocks a little larger and trimming with a <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/products/bloc-loc-6-5-inch-hst-ruler" target="_blank">Bloc Loc</a> to make my points come together a little more easily. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's no secret that I love a dot background ... this one might be my new favorite - a <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/products/modern-background-paper-pindot-silver-white" target="_blank">small grey dot from Zen Chic</a>. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I free motioned my mini with some swirls and I love the <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/vintage-picnic" target="_blank">Vintage Picnic gingham</a> for the binding! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We have a <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/kits" target="_blank">few kits</a> left in both my version show here as well as Jennie's version - see her post about the Leap Frog mini <a href="http://www.cloverandviolet.com/2016/02/mini-mania-qal-leap-frog.html" target="_blank">here at cloverandviolet.com</a>. </div>

Happy Sewing! :)Chrissyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13224248792688446100noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8167834402956695553.post-88767006287613351882016-02-18T22:33:00.002-05:002016-02-18T22:33:56.522-05:00Pineapple Mini QuiltI finally broke down and made a pineapple mini. I'd seen a few that were patchwork squares and they were totally adorable! But then when I saw the Sew Kind of Wonderful girls turn their mini pumpkin pattern into a pineapple, I was sold. I broke out my <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/notions-and-rulers/products/mini-quick-curve-ruler" target="_blank">Mini Quick Curve Ruler</a> I had picked up at market last fall and went for it.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU2YSu2O_Ku6P9yy5r17Y2ZtGC9m8sUD4le3KLls8tRiomXqvEM6s_8EJIs0wnJs-XmpXB-j6PyLGl-T2dVfWiQFiBI_H0WhzH5rlaIRSj-T3he-bkePP3pzDRpISh9La1Wp6mH4USaXw/s1600/PineappleMiniMakes.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU2YSu2O_Ku6P9yy5r17Y2ZtGC9m8sUD4le3KLls8tRiomXqvEM6s_8EJIs0wnJs-XmpXB-j6PyLGl-T2dVfWiQFiBI_H0WhzH5rlaIRSj-T3he-bkePP3pzDRpISh9La1Wp6mH4USaXw/s400/PineappleMiniMakes.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I found that the <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/simply-colorful" target="_blank">Simply Colorful prints</a> from V & Co were perfect for this ... all in similar shades with small scale interesting prints. Scrappy made easy. I like easy. Of course, the background was a no-brainer ... my go-to <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/essential-dots/products/essential-dots-white-black" target="_blank">Moda Essential Dots</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJkyJu_9vTABx24YjlrrUu9s4NXG7cKT2_RAgI8Tb1GUVAVCaKQOVwBPYKhBTLVLtgnkmhWjf25-iAlqpYHJAuHqpL1fvpisgdUESbBydvFt0jOAG7sqYvo6peN9G8UX2vshYvfc1JLVk/s1600/PineappleMini.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJkyJu_9vTABx24YjlrrUu9s4NXG7cKT2_RAgI8Tb1GUVAVCaKQOVwBPYKhBTLVLtgnkmhWjf25-iAlqpYHJAuHqpL1fvpisgdUESbBydvFt0jOAG7sqYvo6peN9G8UX2vshYvfc1JLVk/s400/PineappleMini.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I used the <a href="http://sewkindofwonderful.com/products/mini-pumpkins-pdf-pattern" target="_blank">Mini Pumpkins pattern available online here</a> at Sew Kind of Wonderful for how to make the actual body of the pineapple. The leaves are included as <a href="http://sewkindofwonderful.com/pages/mini-pineapples" target="_blank">free directions here</a> (just click on the picture to access the file).<br />
<br />
I added a small border (about 2" and then trimmed after quilting) to frame up my finished block. A little echo quilting in the background, crosshatch on the fruit, and free motion in the leaves made this really fun!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia6xpSUGKD5ZyrpI87X_-emLkowyFQoJa0lO-u7Nhn0SwAmEWeVEf_O0HDmBNZNVR_aluCSn0cTnZ5JZ0kfk9XcJVd8D2Dy_9FiB29-7ZqRzn2ogPPww70vZ76cb4pGXuAZNfSgvDK1z0/s1600/PineappleMiniKit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia6xpSUGKD5ZyrpI87X_-emLkowyFQoJa0lO-u7Nhn0SwAmEWeVEf_O0HDmBNZNVR_aluCSn0cTnZ5JZ0kfk9XcJVd8D2Dy_9FiB29-7ZqRzn2ogPPww70vZ76cb4pGXuAZNfSgvDK1z0/s400/PineappleMiniKit.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
A few folks on Instagram asked about a kit, so I have a <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/kits/products/pineapple-mini-quilt-kit" target="_blank">similar kit of fabrics available here</a> (shown above).<br />
<br />
Happy sewing! :-)<br />

We're moving right along in the <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/patterns/products/mini-mania-pattern-book" target="_blank">Mini Mania Book</a> this month. Jennie at Clover & Violet and I are sewing the Leap Frog Mini for this month. We picked some similar colors this time, but I love how different these will look despite a similar color scheme.</div>

<a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/kits/products/mini-mania-leap-frog-kit-version-2" target="_blank">My version of the kit</a> keeps the background print as the center star, but uses the same print in all four corners around the center star. Wouldn't this be such a fun block to make multiples of for a quilt? At 16" square, its pretty quick to sew.<br />
<br />
I couldn't help using my favorite <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/hello-darling" target="_blank">Hello Darling</a> print with some new <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/vintage-picnic" target="_blank">Vintage Picnic</a> (now in stock!) for my kit ... they play so nicely together! :-)<br />
<br />
I'll share some tips as well as my finished mini this weekend! In the meantime, you can see my progress on Instagram (@sewlux).<br />

This Heart Mini Trio comes together quick and easy thanks to Moda's precut mini charms!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv42hqJYDtaoITwh67IdLJKPiM-w-J2JlYuRXDhbnN66MAG2F9JIlylDxsafyAAQKO33Eifunw4BkDXoV_yQY8rUV3IbhXEWqyhycehEGzPiwcDEu7fQLUpritbwpI4rEqPjO2q88pP9o/s1600/HeartMiniTrioKitImage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="296" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv42hqJYDtaoITwh67IdLJKPiM-w-J2JlYuRXDhbnN66MAG2F9JIlylDxsafyAAQKO33Eifunw4BkDXoV_yQY8rUV3IbhXEWqyhycehEGzPiwcDEu7fQLUpritbwpI4rEqPjO2q88pP9o/s400/HeartMiniTrioKitImage.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<b>You'll Need (kits while they last): </b><br />
<ul>
<li>1 Mini Charm Pack (or thirty-five (35) 2.5" squares)</li>
<li>1/4 yard binding</li>
<li>1/4 yard backing</li>
<li>10 x 20 cotton batting </li>
<li>3" x 4" cardstock </li>
<li>4" x 8" WonderUnder</li>
</ul>
<br />
<b>Step One: </b><br />
Sort your fabric into four groups. Using the <a href="http://sewluxfabric.com/collections/first-crush" target="_blank">First Crush Fabric by Sweetwater</a>, I sorted as follows:<br />
<ul>
<li>Eight red squares for the hearts </li>
<li>Three sets of nine squares for the mini backgrounds </li>
</ul>
<div>
<b>Step Two: </b></div>
<div>
Next, sew together three nine-patches with your background squares. Press the seams of each row in opposite directions so they will nest when you join them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFe9P2OatF0Q00ZZmmL5klTBhjZJlN8GyfINcoSsfgIeleGncXj9lESmDfyZ5c0dm4vd2FkrGuEFwkcYf0Eno2t0wUT_5l11nZaxUXvKMTRfpGGV7i-5qy1wkAD9mLCG8Yn-r-JTklLL0/s1600/MiniTrio-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="370" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFe9P2OatF0Q00ZZmmL5klTBhjZJlN8GyfINcoSsfgIeleGncXj9lESmDfyZ5c0dm4vd2FkrGuEFwkcYf0Eno2t0wUT_5l11nZaxUXvKMTRfpGGV7i-5qy1wkAD9mLCG8Yn-r-JTklLL0/s400/MiniTrio-1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then, sew the red squares together in a rectangle (two rows of four). Press seams open. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Step Three: </b> </div>
<div>
Fold the 3" x 4" piece of cardstock in half (1.5" x 4") and use paper scissors to cut the shape of a heart. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBY_GfMu4uiucYWH0P2VbYFBXYfKYvIgSoBetdC-k11W_TbktlmSOO1YlkkjR288e9nLrlMPitWM31nGWat3huGPW9uePUJNcY7JleAnV0miuIBgO7Ro_h-Nfp0MVERyYRMMsoFZj0rPY/s1600/MiniTrio-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="343" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBY_GfMu4uiucYWH0P2VbYFBXYfKYvIgSoBetdC-k11W_TbktlmSOO1YlkkjR288e9nLrlMPitWM31nGWat3huGPW9uePUJNcY7JleAnV0miuIBgO7Ro_h-Nfp0MVERyYRMMsoFZj0rPY/s400/MiniTrio-2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Trace the cardstock heart onto paper side of the WonderUnder. Cut out the hearts leaving a little room around your lines. Then, following the manufacturer's directions, fuse the WonderUnder to the wrong side of your pieced hearts rectangle. <br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfO9DkgX-fZuwO_r5oMTEzpgP0cFOMBACBKAe6N58T47bJFS4CSvCIRndPJwqOvTQi9wnFd0mPZOeCYIn12DTBhVbfYFPM_CWYA_pOih3eUjD0LREfsNQhyktXmTF5hNq4EqsEFhLst1U/s1600/MiniTrio-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="287" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfO9DkgX-fZuwO_r5oMTEzpgP0cFOMBACBKAe6N58T47bJFS4CSvCIRndPJwqOvTQi9wnFd0mPZOeCYIn12DTBhVbfYFPM_CWYA_pOih3eUjD0LREfsNQhyktXmTF5hNq4EqsEFhLst1U/s400/MiniTrio-3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Cut out all three hearts. And carefully peel the paper off. Fuse to the nine patch units. </div>
<div>
<br />
<b>Step Four: </b></div>
<div>
Using a coordinating thread, applique one heart to each of the three nine patch units. (I used a zig zag stitch. But you can use a blanket stitch or another decorative stitch.)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicqOGT4lFCLiIEmd7t8RUKrLnin0UWh_OhkXPVvwoQ39YaVfLVyIBmqm5OHoT9B_hPz3Pn9G7anAmWcs7HVFaxhPzclhLEj7XsPaHrjnrXiY2vXN5tBFWs5-PPmqtQcppz7iyPXUqEo4M/s1600/MiniTrio-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="321" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicqOGT4lFCLiIEmd7t8RUKrLnin0UWh_OhkXPVvwoQ39YaVfLVyIBmqm5OHoT9B_hPz3Pn9G7anAmWcs7HVFaxhPzclhLEj7XsPaHrjnrXiY2vXN5tBFWs5-PPmqtQcppz7iyPXUqEo4M/s400/MiniTrio-4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Step Five: </b></div>
<div>
Layer the nine patch, batting and backing. Baste and quilt as desired. Repeat to make three mini quilts. I chose to outline quilt the hearts and then stitch 1/4" along the sides of each seam to make a grid of quilting in the background. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Step Six: </b></div>
<div>
Cut three 2.25" x WOF strips from the binding fabric (one strip for each mini). Press in half lenthwise to created the binding strips. Attach binding and finish by hand or machine as desired. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you do this by assembly line, you can make all three super quick! You could also join them together to create a small runner or pillow. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>

<br />
This week is my week on the Project 48 Quilt block series. Have you heard of <a href="http://www.project48quilt.com/" target="_blank">Project 48 Quilt</a>? It's a block of the week sampler that is hosted by Linden & Crystal. Over the course of the year, there will be 48 different quilt blocks shared by Linden, Crystal, and 24 bloggers (including your's truly).<br />
<br />January's theme is the nine-patch. The is a simple block to make, but of course, there are lots of variations when you play around with the size of the center patch versus the surrounding areas or when you piece some of the patches.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhonQ9thUb5mLHDt03pBXcNz67P2p2v6msv1eU-UeF5N7sPlrIAAPpLe5tNUwxqnKHkMIu6rH6WRt1IR3l2-4Uxd5TXFpPIoR3Jhh6s7lH9DREQqo4JFt4xaK5KTiXcLN-8grMp4_LLGT0/s1600/MeetInMiddle-Block.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhonQ9thUb5mLHDt03pBXcNz67P2p2v6msv1eU-UeF5N7sPlrIAAPpLe5tNUwxqnKHkMIu6rH6WRt1IR3l2-4Uxd5TXFpPIoR3Jhh6s7lH9DREQqo4JFt4xaK5KTiXcLN-8grMp4_LLGT0/s400/MeetInMiddle-Block.JPG" width="388" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I love polka dots, so this was the block I came up with. I definitely want to make a scrappy version of this block soon. I am calling it the <a href="http://www.project48quilt.com/block-four/" target="_blank">"Meet Me in the Middle" block</a>. You can certainly change this up with two colors or event a total of eight prints for the circle.<br />
<br />
You can still sign up for Project 48 Quilt FREE through the end of January. After that, its a nominal fee. <a href="http://www.project48quilt.com/" target="_blank"> Learn more here</a>.<br />
