Feed Co, Paradiso & More
It's been pretty fast and furious with the arrival of new bolts in the shop this past week or so ... here's what's new ..
Feed Company by Sweetwater is here. We loved the black & whites, reds and navys in this one and picked our favorites for the shop ... including these in this fun bundle!
Nomad has a retro vibe and we picked up an awesome feather print and a few low volumes. I built this special curated collection - Feather Your Nest - around the feather print and I love how it turned out!
Kate Spain has done it again with beautiful prints and a stunning color palette in her newest line, Paradiso. I am a sucker for pink and when combined with the aquas and navys, its a winner in my book! We have a few bundles, including this one ...
As well as this Coral & Grey bundle ... which I feel like I must sew with sooner than later! Find bundles, yardage, and select precuts here.
Carrie at Moda has been doing some fab Mix Ups on Mondays and a few weeks ago, I was inspired by one in particular. This is my version, which I'm calling Spring Break in the City. A NYC map print paired with playful aqua, navy and grass green prints.
And we got to the end of our bolts from last month's Low Volume club, so I made a few special edition Low Volume bundles - available while supplies last as some of these prints are not coming back to Sew Lux.
There are also a few new short stacks, lots of new bolt ends, and more to explore in the shop!

Smitten Quilt Along : Large Block Two
Hey everyone! I hope you are ready for more y-seams! :-) The Large Block Two comes together similar to last month's. But with a few less pieces, its pretty fast ... especially since you've got the y-seam down now, right?! ;-)
For more details on the Smitten Quilt Along, visit this post here for dates and supplies, etc. If you haven't purchased templates, go ahead and make your's using the pattern and template plastic or other material of your choice. (Be sure to add the seam allowance if making your own templates.)
Note: I glue baste my pieces. I didn't take pictures of this for this month, as I shared them in the post about last month's blocks.
Don't forget to mark your pieces! It's all about connecting the dots! Mark the wrong side of your fabric pieces with dots where the 1/4" seams would meet. (The acrylic templates have holes, making this super easy!) Alternatively, you could use your ruler and pen to draw lines along the seam allowances to mark your start and stop points.
We'll use these dots as our start and stop points for sewing. Sew a 1/4" seam and always backstitch to secure, but don't sew past the dots, unless we are sewing to the edge. (You'd sew to the edge when the seam is not part of a Y-seam intersection... this will hopefully make more sense in pictures below.)
Start by sewing the triangles to six hexagons. Go ahead and chain piece these - these seams are not part of a Y-seam, so they can be sewn from edge to edge.
Press toward the triangles once sewn.
Next, we'll join together the hexagon-triangle units into two sets of three units. You'll sew dot-to-dot to join these units.
Then its time to add a diamond in each exterior opening, which complete the overall hexagon shape of the finished block. You'll be sewing from the inside dot (at the Y-seam) all the way to the exterior edge.
Add in a diamond on the opposite side to finish the half unit. Repeat with the other trio of hexagon-triangle units.
Join each half to the center hexagon just like we did with Large Block One. We're sewing dot to dot to join to the center hexagon.
You'll join the sides of the two halves (again - just like last month with Large Block One), sewing dot to dot. Then sew in the remaining two side diamonds just as you did before - sewing from the inner dot to the exterior edge.
I pressed all my seams in the same direction - refer to the photo below.
And that's it! You're done! Yippee!
Now plan and sew four more ... you need 5 completed Large Block Twos.
I hope these photos were helpful to you... I can't wait to make a few more myself and to see your's too! Don't forget to use #smittenquilt and #smittenquiltqal on Instagram. :-)

Smitten Quilt Along : Month One Blocks
Have you conquered the Y-seam yet? :)
I don't know about those of you who have been sewing along, but I thoroughly enjoyed making the Large Hexagon One blocks last month! The opportunity to fussy cut in these was so fun that I got carried away and made an extra block!
One of my goals was to mix and match from my stash and all of my favorite designers and make every block one that I love. I was pretty pleased that I was able to get Tula Pink, Bonnie & Camille, Kate Spain, and Katy Jones to all play together so nicely in this one bold block with the orange outer border.
I incorporated a few favorite sewing-related text prints as well. The top block is all my favorites ... dots, green, hot pink zebra, aqua, and low volume all mixed together. Definitely one of my favorite color combos for sure!
I couldn't resist making these Cotton + Steel cats march around the exterior of the block. No block is complete without some polka dots and I am glad I added the pop of black in there. That green stripe is from Chicopee and it was the perfect width for these templates.
Here they all are together! I am loving this project so far and can't wait to see how it evolves over the next few months. See you all on the 6th with tips for machine piecing the next block!

Another sewing themed print and more dots along with fussy cut Tula Pink Vintage Stars.
The black and white dot print is an old favorite from Sweetwater and I'm glad I worked it in! I cut the Daysail stripe prints (red and also teal) the same and love how the effects are different depending on how you use them in the block.
