Scrappy Bee Blocks

Hi there!  Just stopping in to share something I've actually sewn lately! :-)

I finished up some blocks for the May do. Good Stitches group that I am in.  I love that all these blocks go into quilts for people who are in need.  This month, Kelsey asked us to make some string blocks using gray, white, aqua and either yellow or orange.  Great color scheme ... especially for kids. We used this tutorial and it's super easy to do.  I actually only stitch to paper once and then move the paper out of the way to stitch the strips together.  My feed dogs aren't real friendly with paper.

Here are my aqua/gray/white/orange blocks ...

And my aqua/gray/white/yellow blocks (excuse the dark photo ... the sun went down before I finished!) ...

I love how scrappy these are and was glad to work in some scraps from a few shop fabrics, including the Gray Houndstooth, Tea Garden Sencha Blue (now sold out), Bella White, and Weekends Go By Bike Gray. :-)

Well, that's all for now! :-)  We got more shipping notices today, so we'll be adding some precuts from some new lines later this week!  Stay tuned ...

Happy Sewing :-)

New Patterns + Coupons

Happy Memorial Day, y'all!

I am planning to get into my sewing room today and crank out some bee blocks.  I will be dreaming about using one of these great new patterns that we've added to the shop ...

We added three new patterns from Thimble Blossoms by Camille Roskelley, including Swoon (above), Little Ones, and In a Jiffy. Both the Little Ones and In a Jiffy include two different quilts in the one pattern.  A great deal!

We also added a fun jelly roll pattern called Twist 'N Shout from Cotton Way by Bonnie Olaveson.

Both of these are shown with the Ruby fabric that is due out in October.  We've ordered the whole line of this collection plus a few flannels!

Today is also the last day to save on our entire collection of Just Wing It yardage, precuts, fat quarters, and coordinating perle sampler pack.  Check out Jennie's blog post for the coupon code.

We're also offering a "coupon for your thoughts."  As a "baby shop" (we're not even a year old!), we love hearing your feedback and use your input as we plan for the coming months.  We'd love for you to take a few minutes to complete a quick (8 question) survey to give us some input.  If you complete the survey by the 1st, we'll send you a special coupon code.  (You must include your email address in the survey to receive a coupon.  Coupons will be emailed by June 3rd.)  Just click on this link and enter "sewlux" as the secret word. (The survey is hosted through my personal educator account on Quia.com and your information will not be shared or sold.)  Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Other things to note in the shop .... Flurry yardage is up and available!  Moda Cross Weaves now available.  And Punctuation, Spirit, Pure, and City Weekend are now $6.50/yard.

We've also added the ability for you to see our inventory availability on our sewluxfabric.com site when you add products to your cart.  This will make it easier to see if there is enough for your particular project without waiting for a custom listing.

Additionally, we've updated the Etsy shop listings with first class rates for international shipping.

Whew ... I think that is all the latest and greatest for now.  Thanks for making it this far :)

Customer Spotlight: Melissa from masibert

Happy Friday!  Got any big sewing plans this weekend?  I'm helping to host a baby shower on Sunday, so I will surely be whipping up some last minute gifts! :)  (Tell me I'm not the only procrastinator out there!)

Anyway, I wanted to share another Customer Spotlight today.  Melissa has ordered from us a few times and I spotted some of her creations in her Etsy shop - masibert.  She makes lots of gifty things, including bags, gift sets and handmade cards.  Here's the bag that originally caught my eye ...

I love the shape and Fandango is just a great fabric collection that can appeal to so many people.

Thanks, Melissa, for letting us share your project here on our blog!  If you have a project you'd like us to feature in a future Customer Spotlight, please send us an email.

Coming Soon!

Hello, hello!

Several months ago, we tried to order some Bella charm packs in White and Snow, but they were backordered.  We got our shipping notice today and we expect these to be in the shop early next week!  These are great to pair up with a charm pack from your favorite collection ... less cutting = more fun! (See this great charming pinwheel quilt in the Bake Shop.  :)

We'll post an update here when they are available in the shop.

Speaking of the shop, we fell in love with wayyyyyy too many collections that were previewed at Market.  (We didn't make it to Market this go round, but we saw the goods in our rep's email.)  Wow!  We've ordered lots of great stuff for October, which means you'll be getting great deals as we make room for all the new loveliness.  In fact, we'll be adding 145 bolts from 10 new lines to the shop in the coming months.  I will share some sneak peeks with you soon.  :-)  We've already started making some great deals available ... Innocent Crush and Weekends are now only $6 a yard!

Thanks for stopping by today.  I'll be back tomorrow with another Customer Spotlight :)

New Favorites and an Update

Hi again!  I was mixing and matching collections the other day and decided that this is my new favorite combo ...

The Chocolate Houndstooth is such a great tone-on-tone prints.  And the Spirit Panache Stem is so much lovelier in person than the photos ... I didn't realize it had a cute little bee in the print until I started looking at the yardage.  And it goes great with the Essential Dots in Bubblegum.

So what do you think of this combo?  Don't these play so nicely together?  I think I will make some Keyka Lou pouches with them!

Also, I wanted to share that we've moved all of our ready-to-ship handmade goods from our fabric Etsy shop to sewluxgifts.etsy.com.  We think it's best to keep those separate and just wanted you to know in case you went looking for something and couldn't find it.  :-)  We'll be adding more things to the gifts shop later this week, including our entire collection of dulcimer little quilts, as well as pouches, and other assorted items.

Happy Sewing!  :-)

We also have charm packs still available for quick projects. :-)

Revisiting Tea Garden

Hi everyone!  I hope your weekend is going well so far ... last week got away from me at work so it was really nice to have some time today to play revisit Tea Garden.  :)

I must admit I am terrible about starting lots of projects and leaving them in various WIP stages.  I guess I kind of have crafting ADD?!  Anyway, I picked up the Tea Garden Birdies mini quilt and got it quilted today.  Here's a look at it ...

I plan to bind it in Sencha Blue, but need to get another piece of that so that I don't have a bazillion seams in the binding ... so that is my excuse for not having it completely finished yet.  But I think this is turning out really cute. :-)  I did some outline quilting on the birdies, too.

If you think you'd be interested in a kit for this project, I'd be happy to write up the directions and put a kit in the shop ... just let us know in the comments if that might strike your fancy. :)

I also played around with the scraps from this project to make an Envelope Clutch from Keyka Lou Patterns.

This pattern was very well-written and it came together quickly.  I will definitely make this again and try the mini size as well.  :-)  Here are a few pictures of the clutch ...

The inside ....

And the back ... I centered the prints on the pattern and I'm so glad that I did.  :)

This little clutch is headed to my mom this evening ... we're celebrating her birthday! :-)

Thanks for stopping by today!

Customer Spotlight: Kelly at Gone Doggie

Hi everyone!  We hope you are having a great start to the week and getting some sewing time in. :)

We love seeing the projects you make with our fabrics and recently, Kelly from Gone Doggie, shared a photo with us and she agreed to let us share it with you. She turned this great Hopscotch Pink print from Weekends by Erin McMorris ....

... into this SUPER CUTE collar!

Thanks so much for shopping and sharing with us, Kelly!

Do you have a project you'd like to share with us?  We'd love to see it and feature it on our blog.  Email us at sewlux (at) gmail (dot) com.

You're Sew Nice

Hi y'all!  :-)

I am getting ready to mail off the sewing machine cover that I made for my Sewn Spaces swap on Flickr.  Some folks have made some pretty awesome covers.  I am pretty sure I've figured out which one is mine, but I will have to wait and see when a package shows up on my doorstep to confirm my suspicions.

I added some goodies to my partner's box, including the Hexagon block I made awhile back.  This was my first real hand quilting project.  Looks decent from the front, but we won't look at how the stitches on the back aren't perfect! haha  (I took this photo at night, so I apologize it is kind of dark.)

I also made a set of "You're Sew Nice" cards (y'all didn't know I can paper craft, too?!).  I thought I'd show you a picture that also has a peek into the "real world" over here .... that is the mess that is my sewing room! :)

In this picture you can also see stacks of fabric, the beginnings of what I think it going to be a great quilt pattern (coming soon!) and other assorted works-in-progress messes.

I'm off to work on the newsletter ... see ya tomorrow with the Punctuation FQ bundle winner! :-)

April FQ Promo Winner & Shop Updates

Just stopping in to share that we drew a winner for the April FQ Promotion.  The winner is Anita!

Anita bought a Fandango FQ set and check out the bag that she made with it...  Love!

You can read more about her bag on her blog here.  Thanks for sharing your project with us, Anita! :-)

We are expecting some Christmas fabric in this month ... Flurry by Kate Spain and Countdown to Christmas by Sweetwater.  It's my goal this year to spend December relaxing and not racing to finish projects, so I am looking forward to working on some Christmas projects early, like this tree skirt! :)

Also, I wanted to let you know that Sugar Pop and Sunkissed are currently on sale through the 15th.  Such pretty fabrics!

That's all for now ... see ya soon.
