Thimble Blossoms Sampler Week 1 - Clover Blocks

Hey everyone!  I am really excited that it is Friday because we are kicking off the first week of sewing in the Thimble Blossoms Sampler Round 2!

I want to start this week by sharing that you should plan ahead with your cutting if you are using our kit or a layer cake for the bulk of your blocks.

(sorry for a couple of crappy phone pics here!)

I used the cutting guide (available here) that we included with our kits to plan out where I would use each fabric.  There is some flexibility, even with using a layer cake, but you do have to plan ahead a little to get all the cuts and distribute the colors throughout the quilt.  You can see below how I mapped things out a little before starting.  Be sure to read all of it and feel free to let me know if you have questions. :-)

Ok .. now that we have that out of the way, let's talk about this week's sewing!  We'll be using the Summerville pattern for the next four weeks.  You can download the pattern from Camille here.

We're making what I will call "clovers" this week, which are made up of four of the border blocks, just arranging them a little differently to make a four leaf clover or chunky X block.  These are quick and simple to sew together - perfect for our first week! :)

One of the reasons we are making these first is that we need to cut these squares out early from the layer cake (refer to cutting guide) so we'll have pieces big enough.  You'll see as we sew along that the leftovers of these layer cake squares will appear all of the place in my quilt top as well.

I did choose to make each of these in a different color, but you can do them however you want!  It's totally up to you!

I found it helpful to pin those intersections where the white background corner pieces met to try and make sure things lined up nice as I sewed the four units together.

Hello Darling is such a fun and pretty collection!  I am really excited for how this quilt will turn out!

Have a great weekend and I will see you next Friday with the next set of blocks!

Happy Sewing! :-)

Thimble Blossoms Sampler Round Two Layout Reveal

We are pretty excited over here about the next round of the Thimble Blossoms Sampler Quilt Along! We announced the QAL last week and by popular request, are sharing the layout up front this time ... we hope you like it!  :-)

I managed to cut almost the entire quilt this weekend and sew a few of my blocks (above) so you could get a feel for where we're heading.  Our quilt kits use Hello Darling and this is going to be so fun and cheerful, I think!

The image below shows the general layout of the quilt.  We will also add a border all around the quilt (if you are ordering a kit, be sure to choose your favorite border option!) to make this a nice size quilt at approximately 72" x 82".

You can download the Layout here for reference.

What do you think?!  We hope you like it ... the more blocks I've sewn, the more I can't wait to finish!  If you have any questions, please feel free to comment or send us an email at sewlux at gmail dot com.

Happy Sewing! :-)

Thimble Blossoms Sampler Quilt Along - Round Two

We had so much fun with the Thimble Blossoms Scrappy Sampler, that we've decided to do another one!  If you remember, the first one looked like this ...

I was fortunate that Nicole (aka @kwilter100) made some time to custom quilt this one for me.  I'm still hand sewing my binding down, but she did an amazing job on this!

For our next round, we'll use Camille's four newest patterns - Nantucket, Clambake, Summerville, and Flower Patch.  You can order the patterns here at Camille's shop

We have a limited supply of kits of fabric for the top & binding available. You can learn more here about kits and order them here.  Kits will begin shipping 9/5/15.

Our Quilt Along will run for eight weeks with posts mainly on Fridays with the following schedule:

We hope you'll join us and sew along!  If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment on this post or email us at sewlux (at) gmail.

Happy Sewing! :-)

Thimble Blossoms Scrappy Sampler Quilt Along

I'm really excited to introduce a fun little quilt along today!  (If you follow me on Instagram, I teased everyone about this announcement with a photo of some of my B&C stash yesterday.)

Back when Camille shared her Hello Darling fabric and new patterns at the end of March on Instagram, I fell in love with all of them.  Realistically, though, my quilt bucket list is longer than I will ever have years for and I thought a sampler quilt might be fun... and then I thought it might be fun to do it with all of you!  So I emailed Camille about my idea and here we go!  :-)

Here are all the details ...

Patterns Needed:

This sampler uses four of Camille's most recent patterns.  (She shared her original quilts here.) You will need a paper or PDF copy of each of these patterns:
  • Piccadilly Circus
  • Lollies
  • Vintage Tulips
  • Swoon Sixteen
We will be assembling various blocks into rows and I will share the setting, sashing, & border instructions here on my blog during the QAL.  The completed quilt measures approx 58" x 78".

*We are using the full size versions of Picadilly Circus & Vintage Tulips, not the mini quilt patterns.

The Schedule:
* There will be a small adjustment to size or construction to make it all work - details will be given at the appropriate week's post.

Fabric Needed:

Blocks & Borders: It's a little difficult to say exactly how much fabric you need since we will be making blocks from several patterns and depending on how scrappy you go it could make a big difference. Vintage Tulips & Piccadilly Circus are both jelly roll strip friendly, the Swoon Sixteen is FQ friendly and the Lollies are Layer Cake friendly.  I will be using Bonnie & Camille prints for the most part and going with a scrappy look.  Pull out your favorites and consult each pattern.

Block Background & Sashing: Approximately 3.25 yards (I am using my favorite Essential Dots throughout)  Tips for cutting your background for the most efficient use can be found here.

Binding: 1/2 yard if using 2.5" wide strips

Backing: 3 yards

(Note: this stack of pretties is part of my personal stash and therefore isn't representative of our kit.)

Are you in?  I hope you'll join me ... I am really excited about this one!

I'll be sharing my progress here and on Instagram.  If you are on IG, tag me @sewlux and use the #TBScrappySamplerQAL ... there may even be a few prizes along the way! ;-)

See you all on Monday!

Happy Sewing!  :-)

UPDATE: A limited number of kits are now available in our shop.  Please be sure to read the description carefully.

Thanks for all your support & enthusiastic response so far!
