Granny Squares

Hi again!  Do any of you crochet?  It's not a skill I have practiced in awhile nor one that I am very good at, but I think those Granny Square blankets are so lovely.

Fortunately, Jolene made a tutorial for some quilt blocks that look like the Granny Square crocheted squares.  You can see her tutorial here.  My do. Good Stitches charity bee quilt this month was using these fun blocks.  I pinned the tutorial awhile ago and I appreciated the motivation of my bee to give it a try.  Here are my blocks ...

(Sorry my photo is a little dark.) These blocks are about 9" square and were really easy to make!  It took longer to choose fabrics and cut my squares than it did to piece, press and trim.  What do you think? ... I think I need to find some time to make more! :-)

Domestic Bliss

Hey friends!  I am really excited to tell you that I finally got some sewing done!  :-)  It has been a busy few weeks at my day job and around the house so most of my sewing has been in my daydreams.  But, I managed to piece a small quilt yesterday in just a couple of hours thanks to another great tutorial from Jennie at Clover & Violet

Jennie's Car Seat Quilt tutorial was featured on the Moda Bake Shop today - check it out here.  The tutorial is easy to follow and the quilt really does go together quickly.  And while I didn't have time to get it quilted yesterday, here is my version in Domestic Bliss.

The colors and prints in this collection are so fun ... kind of modern but kind of retro.  :-)

We have a few kits available to make this little quilt.

Pick one up and today ... you could use it as a table topper or wall hanging too.  And as soon as the Ten Little Things yardage comes in we'll have  a "boy version!" :-)

Scrap Attack Strings QAL - The First 8

Hi there!  Last week, I added a linky post for you to show & tell your Scrap Attack Strings QAL blocks!  Well, I figured I'd better show you my blocks too! :-)

Here are my first 8 blocks ...

I am really loving the scrappy-ness of this project.  And I like knowing that when I am all done this quilt will be like a walk down my sewing memory lane! Even while I was assembling blocks I was thinking about the people and the projects that these scraps came from.

There is still time to enter the drawing for the first linky - all the details are here.  And if you're just now learning about the Scrap Attack Strings QAL or planning to start in, don't feel like you're late!  You are welcome to jump in any time!  :-)

Later this week I will share how I am storing my blocks for this project. Until then ...

Customer Spotlight: Katie's Flannel Pillowcase

Hi there and Happy Friday!  Just stopping in to share a quick Customer Spotlight post with you. :-)

Katie is not only a loyal customer but also a great friend and my coworker!  She recently picked up some Ruby flannel and loved it so much she whipped out a pillowcase that evening!  (I realize y'all think I am biased, but this flannel feels so nice!)

She used the Ruby Swoon Aqua flannel for this one.  After sleeping with this new pillow she ordered more flannel to make a couple more cases!  :-)

Thanks for sharing your pillowcase, Katie!  I might have to whip one up for myself!

If YOU have a project you'd like us to feature, please send me an email!
Happy Sewing! :-)

Scrap Attack Strings QAL Show & Tell #1

Well, hello there!  About a month ago, I introduced a QAL to help us use up those pretty little bits we all have hiding in the scrap bin.  (Of course, you could make this quilt with yardage too!)

You can read more about it here and find a tutorial for the blocks here.  (Easy peasy!)  I will be posting a linky party once a month for a little show and tell of your blocks! Today's the first linky!  You'll have until 2/19/12 to share the blocks you've made so far ... or if you are just getting started, show me your scraps and share a link to the QAL project on your blog.  I'll select a random entry for a fun little surprise!

Updating...

Hi there!  I can't believe its nearly Wednesday already ... holy cow!  Have you ever had one of those weeks that seems to just zip past you?  I had a busy weekend, which included many tasks, including finishing one of my biggest quilt tops to date (a twin size of this).  It's been shipped off to the fabulous Marlene to quilt and boy was I glad I arranged for longarm services because ironing it was bad enough!  LOL  I will share more about it when it comes back. :-)

I finally got a chance to update some things around the shop tonight ....

Ruby is on sale through 2/15/12.  We still have at least some yardage of every print in the collection.  See them all here.  I also updated the Last Chance page with some end-of-bolt cuts and limited stock items.

AND ... two new collections arrived today!

Reunion by Sweetwater  - I think the bunting prints are my fav!

And Pezzy Prints by American Jane - I love this green.  (And the hot pink.  And gray ...)

Yardage and fat quarters are available in both of these collections.

And, there are still some reservation slots available for Flea Market Fancy if you are interested.  Check out the options here.

And did I mention we ordered Christmas fabric last week?!  Yes.  We.  Did.  Crazy, right?!

Well, that's it for now!  I will be back tomorrow with the linky post for the first month of the Scrap Attack Strings QAL ... have you been making blocks?  I will have a little giveaway for a random participant ... hope you can join in!

Happy Sewing! :-)

Decorating Your Space

This guest post is part of the Get Organized Series!

Hi there! I'm Jennie and I blog over at Clover & Violet about embroidery, quilting, sewing, and my kids {and you can visit mine and my mom's little pattern shop here!}.  When Chrissy invited me to the Get Organized Series, I was thrilled because I love to organize.  There is just something great about sorting, putting things in a purposeful place, and being able to find what I'm looking for.  Here is what my sewing room usually looks like:

However, with a few minutes and a little running around, I can have it all cleaned up, because I've worked hard to keep it organized.  My sewing space looks like this:

Since my sewing space is part of our open family room {along with the office and toys!}, I try to keep it looking as cute as possible too.  For starters, here's how I organize my cutting area:

I love keeping pens, scissors, and other tools in little metal baskets {bought for ~$1 each!}.  And never underestmate storing things under tables either.  My sewing table also houses quite a few things, as I am in need of space:

Since most notions start hanging on a wall at the quilt shop, it is easy to just place them on the bulletin board when you're at home, then you'll never be buying something you already have {I have a magnetic snap, some boning, and embroidery threads along with my stuff!}.  I also keep my most used machine accessories in a little box by the machine, so they're always at hand, even if there is fabric on the machine.  Now for my fabric storage:

Instead of bookends, I have my travel {Hello Kitty} sewing machine and a vase full of thread.  I also keep odd buttons and safety pins in those tiny glass jars {don't know if you can see them}.  In addition, I store my perle cotton threads in little plastic drawers.  I use embroidery hoops in a variety of colors as wall art too!

So, there you have it, my little space, it is quite cozy!  Thanks Chrissy for inviting me and I hope I've given you some ideas to use those supplies as decorating too!

Get Organized: Pockets to Go

Hi there!  I am back today with another Get Organized Series post. Today, I wanted to share a project I made from a pattern in the shop called Pockets to Go from Atkinson Design.

These little buckets are perfect for corraling small items in one place.  I made this little fabric bucket for a coworker at school as a birthday gift and she loves keeping it on her counter at home to corral her keys, phone, and other items she frequently uses. Here it is in action. :)

I used some Terrain prints as well as the Lilac Essential Dots and managed to make the whole thing with 4 fat quarters in addition to the peltex and two zippers!  Since I decided to use several prints, I did take a little extra time to plan out the cuts and label them.  I laid them out on the floor in my sewing room so that I wouldn't get anything mixed up.

Look at all the great pockets this has on the inside!

And ... it makes a great gift bag too!

What would YOU organize with a little Pockets To Go bucket?  I'd love to hear your ideas!

Happy Sewing! :)
